After months and months of speculation, here's the announcement we've all been waiting for!
The following announcement is issued by the Press Secretary to the Prince of Wales
The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of his son, Prince William, to Miss Kate Middleton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Michael and Carole Middleton, to which union the Queen has gladly given her consent.
The couple sought the permission of their respective parents early in the New Year. Both families are thrilled at the news.
No decision has been taken yet regarding the venue and date for the wedding. However, Prince William and Miss Kate Middleton hope that it might be possible to use Westminster Abbey, in the late Summer or early Fall.
